Before starting up K Bella Swim, Katya was an international fashion model. She was raised on the Black Sea beaches of the resort town of Sochi, which is Russia's biggest and busiest summer sea resort, attracting more than four million visitors annually with its amazing mountainous coastline, endless shingle beaches, warm sunny days, and bustling nightlife.
While playing and later working on the seashore there, Katya developed her obsession with beach culture and desire to live in a place where every day is summer. While working as fashion model, Katya had the chance to travel around Asia, and finally called Singapore home.
We catch up with Katya to find out what’s the inspiration behind K Bella Swim, how she keeps fit while juggling between entrepreneurship and modelling, and tips on looking good while being a frequent traveller.
1. What’s your passion in life?
I am passionate about always making a difference. When I'm involved with any work project, I want to do my best to achieve success. I commit the same way in my personal life.
2. What’s your inspiration for K Bella Swim?
I am always inspired by my travels, tropical sunsets, and nature. For my first collection I derived inspiration from tropical birds in Singapore that I am lucky to see almost every day from my condominium balcony or from walking through the nearby parks.
3. As an owner and model, how’s your daily schedule?
I am giving all my energy to K Bella Swim at the moment and only model on the side when my schedule allows, and I am excited by the specific opportunity. As an entrepreneur it is very important to constantly look for solutions and research new product strategies and marketing solutions for your company, so my schedule is pretty much brain storming and web browsing every day.
4. What do you like best about your work? As a model, as an entrepreneur?
As a model I love to meet new people and travel around the world. I also love challenging situations and to push myself to achieve success as an entrepreneur.
5. How do you keep fit/ look good amidst your busy schedule?
Fortunately, I work from my home office, so I do make time to go to the gym at least two or three times a week. I love working out as it is helps me to release some stress and keeps me motivated as well as healthy. It also is important as the founder of a swimwear line!
6. What’s your must-have skincare item in your bag?
In hot and humid Singapore, we are drowning in air conditioning every day and this dries out the skin dramatically. I moisturize my face and body twice a day and never go anywhere without a hand moisturizer and lip balm.
7. What’s your top healthy-eating tip?
I do not follow any specific diet but try to eat salmon at least once a week. I heard in one study that having at least one fish meal a week was associated with a 60 percent reduction in the risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease. Other studies have found that eating fish slashes your chance of dying from heart disease by about a third. I also eat as many fruits and vegetables as I can.
8. What’s your favourite destinations amongst all the places you’ve travelled to?
Italy (Rome and Amalfi coast), Greece (Santorini), Maldives, Costa del Sol in Spain, Bali
9. Where’s your next vacation destination?
I’ve always dreamed of visiting Morocco and next summer my dream will finally come true. I love the culture, food and of course the colour palette.
10. How to stay and look good when traveling? E.g. skincare, hydration, moisturiser
It is not easy to look good when traveling especially with the long flights and time difference which affect your sleep pattern. For me is important to stay hydrated both during the flight and after. I also make sure to continually moisturize my face and hands.
